Caring Ministry for the Poor

Background

In 2008, the Financial Tsunami came suddenly. Many Hong Kong citizens are victimized directly or indirectly. Because of it, the disparity between the rich and the poor has become more serious. The unemployment rate remains high and the lives of the grassroots’ families have become harder. Food is of exceptional importance to the grassroots’ families and thus our organization has started several caring ministries to provide practical assistance to the needy.

Beatitudes Feast

Between the 20th and 30th day of each month, the elderly have almost spent all their Old Age allowance provided by CSSA (Comprehensive Social Security Allowance). Therefore, we started the ministry of Beatitudes Feast in July 2008 to provide a free and healthy lunch to a group of elderly people aged 65 or above or those elderly who are CSSA recipients, scrap paper collectors and living alone. In the meantime, gospel program are arranged to spread the love message of Jesus Christ to them. We pay regular visits to them and care about them in their residing places. We form small groups to help them develop normal social lives.

Jesus' Love Meal

In October 2008, we started our “Free Meal Ministry” in Canton Road Market to bless the poverty-stricken and to show the love of Jesus Christ. We have reached different groups of people, those who collect scrap paper underneath the flyovers, women and the elderly living alone in plywood rooms in Tai Kok Tsui. We give away over 140 lunch boxes on every Sunday afternoon and continue to follow-up on them in order to provide various kinds of assistance.

Love-Net Food Bank
The Lord moved Jubilee Ministries to set up a Community Food Bank in Tai Kok Tsui early 2009. This food bank renders urgent food assistance to the poor and to families who does not have 3 meals a day. It is hoped that at least these people can be fed.

Furthermore, Jubilee, together with other organizations in the “Hong Kong Church Network For the Poor”, joined hands to empower and facilitate 50 churches in Hong Kong to set up smaller Food Banks to serve poverty-stricken families in 18 districts in HK. Delegates from churches took training classes on community outreach and how to operate a food bank. A total of 30 Food Bank will begin operation by September. Their joint effort will merge into an influential movement of caring for the poor, enhancing churches’ impact and visibility in society. The partnership is under the “Hong Kong Church Network For the Poor and is named Love-Net Foodbank.

If God’s prompts you to offer “a cup of cold water” on behalf of Him to quench the thirst of the people in misery; and if you are willing to join the army of ministry to the poor, please fill out the reply form and return it to us.

We eagerly await your response!
